Atlanta GA: The Libertarian Party of Georgia (LPGa) supports the legal efforts by VOTERGa.org (Voters Organized for Trusted Election Results in Georgia) to ban Georgia’s electronic voting machines that can not be audited.
Today at a press conference, VOTERGa. Plaintiffs explained the motion for summary judgment that is being filed this week in conjunction with their lawsuit. The motion will seek to ban Georgia’s current voting equipment. The plaintiffs discussed the details and related evidence indicating illegal acquisition, improper certification and unconstitutional usage of the voting equipment.
Daniel Adams, newly elected chairman of LPGa. said the state must take action to ensure that the integrity of the Georgia voting system is beyond question by providing voters with an auditable voting system; a paper trail.
“The electronic voting machines were a solution waiting for a problem”, said Adams. “We can no longer continue a system that is not trusted by voters.” Adams points to a recent SPLOST vote in Cobb County to make his point.
In 2005, Cobb County Georgia held a $1.2 billion Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendum that passed by only 117 votes on a one issue ballot. The official results showed 285 “non-votes”. The election results created suppressions and concerns that the results had been manipulate after election officials admitted there were “glitches” in the tabulation of the results.
“An auditable paper trail is the only way to bring confidence back to the voting process”, Adams declared.
The Libertarian Party of Georgia encourages the state of Georgia to do the right thing and implement a voting system that is constitutional and beyond reproach.
